WAT THAI BHAVANA
Mount Helen
Location: Wat Thai Bhavana – Mount Helen, Victoria
Designed for the Monk Buddhist Meditation Centre, this garden draws inspiration from the four stages of Buddha’s life—nativity, enlightenment, the first sermon, and nirvana—each expressed through distinct spatial experiences and planting themes. Lush ferns and layered greenery symbolise birth and renewal, while a serene deciduous birch grove represents the stillness of nirvana.
Set within Mount Helen’s cooler climate, the planting palette carefully weaves Indigenous Australian species with climate-suited oriental varieties, balancing symbolism, resilience, and seasonal beauty. Upon completion, the garden will welcome both the temple community and the wider public as a place of reflection and calm.
